What does "Keep effort constant" mean in the planner app?

We are asked again and again what the setting under View/View/Kee effort constant means. Yet it is quite simple.

If a resource is assigned to a package and you extend the package, there are basically two ways of dealing with the planned work.

  • The effort is increased accordingly (so that the percentage allocation remains the same). The project planner assumes that this package is longer and requires more effort.
  • The other way - and this is where the "Keep effort constant" selection comes in - is that the planned effort remains the same. The people in the packages simply have more time.

We deliberately built this in so that the user is not asked every time they want to extend (that would be annoying). So you work in one mode.

Of course, this also works when packages are shortened.
