Is there an area for team discussions (forums)?

No. Although elements in Can Do can be commented on by users (e.g. milestones), general forums are usually implemented in MS-Sharepoint or MS-Teams. There is an interface to MS Teams to which Can Do then reports changes for planning or updating.
